Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about how we work or which service might be right for you? Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.
What is conflict coaching and how is it different from therapy?
Conflict coaching is focused and goal-oriented—we work together on a specific difficult conversation or relationship challenge you're facing right now. Rather than exploring your past, we clarify what you want to say, practice your response, and build your confidence to show up in a way aligned with your values. Therapy often goes deeper into patterns and history; coaching is practical and forward-focused.
Can I do sessions virtually?
Yes. We offer both in-person sessions in Portland and virtual sessions via video for clients anywhere. Whether you're local or across the country, you can work with us from wherever feels comfortable.
What should I expect in my first session?
We'll start by understanding what's going on—the situation, what you're hoping for, and what's making it hard. From there, we'll work together to clarify your goals, explore what you want to communicate, and often practice your response so you feel ready. It's collaborative and practical, not clinical.
Do you work with couples and families?
Yes. We offer 1:1 coaching, monthly workshops for couples communication, and our 3-week course—all designed to help partners and family members show up with more clarity and calm, even in difficult moments.
How do I know which service is right for me?
If you're preparing for a specific difficult conversation and want personalized support, 1:1 coaching is your best bet. If you want to build communication skills in a group setting, our monthly workshops offer community and practice. If you're ready for a deeper, structured learning experience, the 3-week course gives you a complete toolkit. Learn more about each option, or reach out and we can help you figure out what fits.
How long does it take to see results?
Many people feel more confident and clear after just one session. The real shift happens when you practice what you've learned—when you actually have the conversation and realize you can stay calm and advocate for yourself, even if the outcome isn't perfect. That's the win.
